A year has passed since I took the resolution to knit at least a pair of socks every month....
Report:
14 pairs of adult socks (one pair is still waiting for a proper photoshooting), 1 pair of baby socks, and 2 single sample socks for Le Comptoir, Paris.
All these socks are knitted from the cuff to toe. I never changed my recipe. Maybe it's time to try toe-ups?
I improved the fit of my socks, by learning how to alter the heel flap lenght.
I improved my ribbing skills.
It appears that I don't really enjoy knitting complicated socks, but basic and easily memorisable patterns.
I love handpainted yarns, but hate when they pool. Solid or Semi-Solid have my preference.
My favorite sock yarns of the year: Cascade Heritage, Lorna's Laces Shepherd Socks, and Fleece Artist Trail Socks.
Verdict:
I enjoyed my monthly rendez-vous a lot. Will I do it again this year? Still have to think about it. Since my knitting time is much reduced now, and considering that I already own quite a few pair of socks (enough for almost two weeks of toasty warmness), I think I would prefer to knit more sweaters (there's so much in my queue!) and shawls. But knitting socks is so much fun, and I want to spoil a special person....I still hesitate.... :)
And you Dear Knitters? Are you tempted by a personal unofficial sock club?
Very pretty! The turqoise socks with the cable in the back are definitely my favorite.
RépondreSupprimerLast year I joined a group on Ravelry for knitting Cookie A. socks out of her Knit.Sock.Love. book. I think I made about 5 or 6. I love those socks, but with how complex some of her patterns are, definitely not something I could pull off every single month.
Of course, I've decided that in 2012 I'm going to knit twelve sweaters, so maybe that's even more crazy.
12 sweaters?!? I'm not even able to knit 3 sweaters in a year... This is crazy! :)
SupprimerNo, I made my obligatory pair of socks and found that I don't do well with the fiddly little yarn and dpns. I'm like an ogre knitting with toothpicks... lol. However, this year I am going to tackle colorwork, spinning and learning how to read a chart. Those should suffice in making me crazy.
RépondreSupprimerOooh, that reminds me! I should start this challenge this year! Perhaps I can tempt you to join me..? :) It'd definitely help get my motivation up!
RépondreSupprimerThis is tempting really! It would be so much fun and motivating! Still need to think about it though....
SupprimerLooks like your year of socks was a huge success :D You could always do a 6-pair/year so you have room for sweaters and other things.
RépondreSupprimerYeah for you year of socks. Yours all look wonderful! I too knit 14 pairs this year. You will have to share with my your learned technique for altering the heel flap length.
RépondreSupprimerI do not think I will be doing the YOS again, but never say never. :)
Beautiful! Its been a while since I completed a pair of socks - this gives me some inspiration to get back on the sock-knitting bandwagon!
RépondreSupprimerElles sont toutes ravissantes! Bravo :)
RépondreSupprimerOoh, how lovely to see photo's of your year of socks all together. I have knitted a few baby socks but never a full size pair. I just know I'd suffer terribly from second sock syndrome and end up with loads of unfinished pairs. You, on the other hand, must have two of the cosiest feet in France !
RépondreSupprimerAnnie, the secret is to knit both sock at the same time! I have all my sock needles in double or triple! This way, I'm sure I won't have the SSS.
SupprimerI also want to knit some more socks this year, though no number is set.
RépondreSupprimerI almost always go toe up and don't change my recipe much. I also prefer some mindless stockinettes on a regular basis because I have so many crazy yarns, the color would get lost in much patterning.
RépondreSupprimerNow that it truly, truly impressive!
RépondreSupprimerI'm not a sock knitter, but I'm beginning to think I should give in and get out the double-pointed needles...
