Three Time's the Charm

Hello! I hope you had a lovely Easter Time with your cherished ones. Today, I'd like to show a project I finished a few days ago. The shawl is on it's way to my recipiend's home, Hope she'll like it!

What would you do if your boyfriend's mother asked for a shawl? I accepted the mission of course! Together, we browsed the internet to find the right yarn, and right pattern, and I began to knit. Guess what? It was pretty difficult to find a soft, mérino, undyed, machine washable, fingering yarn!

Pattern: Shetland Triangle Lace Shawl by Evelyn A. Clark

Yarn: Malabrigo Sock (63 Natural), 1.78 skeins. From Laine et Tricot.

Needles: Addi Turbo 4.5mm 60cm

Mods: Knitted 17 repeats of chart B instead of 11 as stated.

Finished Size: 200 cm x 100 cm

About the Yarn: First time knitting this yarn. Immediate love. Oh so soft! Seems very fragile for socks though. Knitting a shawl from this yarn was a delight. I'll probably use it again.

About the Pattern: When you knit a pattern for the third time, it means you love it! This shawl is definitely a must-knit! Easy peasy!

  1. Hello Dona, wonderful FO as usual :)) Congratulations! I have a question for you: when you offer a lace shawl, do you also give the instructions relating to blocking and washing? I do not dare to offer lace items because I am afraid their recipients would think it is a "poisoned gift" when it comes to care! ;) I would love to know your opinion on that subject! Take care :)

    1. I love your comments as well as the shawl! (Dona, A new triumph, to be sure.) I've wondered the same about gifts that need "extra" care. I think the item either will be a drawer fixture that never gets used (Yipes!)as you say, "poisoned"(love that term btw). Or will become something they throw over the unused bird cage in the garage.

  2. Hello Lydia! I usually don't offer lacy gifts because of the "blocking problem". As I offer lifetime "after sales service" as well, the recipiend has to be a family member or a knitter! :)
In the case of the Shetland Lace Triangle, blocking is optionnal (in my opinion) and ironing (gently) is enough to open the lace pattern.

    1. Thank you Dona for your kind and precise reply. That is indeed the solution I had come to but as I don't live nearby my closest family and friends, I am afraid the "shawl option" will still remain at the bottom of the potential gifts list for a while! Or I would have to find patterns requiring minimal blocking. How would you recognize them? I would have assumed that "the more lace there is, the more blocking is required" but you just said that the Shetlande Lace Triangle does not necessarily require lots of blocking. Now I am puzzled :)

    2. I don't really know how I "recognize" these shawls.... It's more about a "feeling" I'd say. Dream Stripes, Shaelyn and all that "plain" shawls should work without blocking. (First block, then soft iron). I guess that very lacy shawls, with a pointy edge need extra care.

  3. What a lovely lace ... I love Malabrigo sock but I have never used it to knit lace ... it looks like an ideal yarn for lacy shawls !

    1. Thank you Annie! The yarn blocked nicely, but I thought it was a little less stretchy than other yarn I knit usually.
