What do you do when....

You have to many projects on the needles, and you want to cast on more?

Type A: The reasonable knitter. Will patiently and wisely finish the UFOs.
Type B: The impulsive knitter. Will cast on the new project despite the already existing UFOs.

Me? Type C: I frog.

I'm usually the Type A knitter as I don't like having more than one project at the same time. Two is a maximum, because I usually already begin to feel the Guilt. More than one is only for emergencies like Christmas, Birthdays, unexpected last-minute gifts or crochet (crochet is not knitting so it doesn't count).

This time it was different. I had this yarn for a while. I had already tried to knit it twice without any satisfying result. I thought, maybe, this time would be different. The pattern was lovely and very well written, I had the right needles (Addi 2.25mm), I was in the perfect mood to knit my May Socks... but, but, but, I hate this yarn! It's rough, splitty, thin and has a suspect acrylic sheen (confirmed by the label: 7%). After several days without touching it, the wiser decision was to frog. It's a shame because I had almost finished the gusset decreases on both sock, but I wouldn't have loved them anyway, and I'm too nice to offer these socks to someone I like (remember: acrylic = yuk!)
The sadistic satisfaction I feeled while frogging proved me I was right!

Now I have those lovely socks on the needles. They are humble and simple, but exactly what I needed to forgive this horrible blue yarn!

What type of Knitter are YOU? A, B, C or any other kind?

Wish you a lovely week end!

  1. I'd say I am usually type A knitter but I can suddenly turn into type B knitter. Lots and lots of started projects and still casting on for new ones...At the moment I'm definitely type B knitter...

  3. Definitively a B knitter. I had four socks at the same time, and was excited to knit the fifth one: my ear-ring-socks.
I think, I can't begin more because I don't have enough needles from the same number!! But, of course, I finish everyone, and so, I never be in "manque", always a sock for each case (easy when I have to speak and difficult when I am at home with myself). Bye

  4. Je suis à 100 % type B avec tendance C!
Impossible de tricoter un fil que je n'aime pas, même si au final le résultat pourrait être satisfaisant!
Quel sort as tu réservé à cette laine?

  5. Definitely B, in fact I may be a triple B. To B or not to B...better to B, too much is my philosophy. B Happy, B brave, B loving...triple B. I agree with the frogging BTW. If you can't love it then its best to free up the needle for something you can B happy about!

  7. The new socks look perfect.

Well I'm certainly not type A. I'm Type D I think. That's a B who keeps stopping to design her own stuff, leaving all the stuff designed by others to languish on the needles, and a B who is not averse to frogging to clear space.. 'If you don't love it frog it' is one of my rules of knitting!

  8. Been there ... done that. There's even more satisfaction in frogging an almost completed project while others look on in disbelief. Great fun, that!

  9. Wait, wait. I'm confused. You can have too many projects going? Ha. I think I'm pretty solidly type B, though I've been better about only having 2-3 going lately. (I'm totally ignoring years old UFOs in a drawer...and I don't always count a pair of socks I keep in the car for emergencies...) I do applaud you for ripping out something when you're not loving the yarn. It's not worth it for all the hours you put in on a project.

    1. I used to be a B. I had a sock while commuting, a lacy shawl at home, and a mindless stockinette project for the phone. Now, I mostly knit at home, on evenings, and having multiple FO's give me the feeling I'm not making enough progress in my knitting!
I'm glad I frogged these socks! You're right, they weren't worth the time and efforts. :)

  10. Lately I have been Type C. I am frogging projects that aren't working for me for one reason or another. Then that leaves me open to cast on a million more projects. Yeah!
Love the socks on the needles.

  11. I'm definitely type A ;-) I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. I find most knitters I know are type B ;-) Bon weekend à toi!
